Program

The workshop with Salvatore Vitale is aimed at photographers and artists who want to experiment with the expressive potential of photography in dialogue with different media. In an era characterised by an increasingly interconnected digital communication, visual artists need to deal on a daily basis with languages and media that constantly influence and shape the production of content and narrative projects.

During the workshop, participants will be invited to produce a narrative project that will be developed by adopting different communication strategies. The final objective will be the creation of a transmedia narrative project involving the use of photography in association with other media such as sound, archive images, social platforms, video, text.

Participants are asked to identify a guiding theme for their project and conduct preliminary research on the chosen theme before the workshop. The material collected will be preparatory to the work carried out during the workshop days. There are no limits in the choice of topics: from a social or contemporary context to pure fantasy stories.

FAQ

Should I prepare a portfolio or how should I share my preliminary research?

Workshop participants are asked to prepare a portfolio including a work in development or research on a project they want to start developing. A presentation supported by visual material will be requested at the beginning of the workshop.

Although I am interested in it, I have never dealt with other types of media, is it the right workshop for me?

Absolutely. The main focus is on the medium of photography. During the workshop there will be the opportunity to experiment with other media including, for example, text, sound, video. The different narrative choices will be consequential to the nature of the work and research presented during the workshop.

More specifically, what is the final output of the workshop?

During the workshop there will be a practical part of work on project ideas. The final output of the workshop will therefore be related to the development of a strategy for the continuation and finalisation of the work. Based on the ideas presented, participants will also be able to realise images and multimedia content.

How can I apply for the scholarship?

You should apply no later than 31 August, taking care of sending a motivational paragraph that addresses why you would benefit from attending the workshop. We will evaluate your reasons and background.
